This is the engine bay of a recent F250 turbodiesel. Or, at least I’m told it is. I personally can’t see any engine, because it’s hidden behind all this turbo stuff, piping, TWO batteries, air filter, and massive reservoirs.
Seriously, how the hell do you service one of these things?
Also, this truck has FIVE radiators. Intercooler, AC condenser, coolant radiator, transmission cooler, and what? I don’t know what the 5th one is for.

Step 1 stop looking for spark plugs on a diesel.

OH MY GOD
Fuck me....

SPARK PLUGS
DIESEL
Second time I’ve used this today:

Can we just pretend that never happened?
I don’t deal with diesel much....

Fifth radiator is probably an external oil cooler...

Just say: “I meant glowplugs”

Into the delorean!

That would make sense. This truck was definitely set up for work, it had a 5th wheel hitch and a plow setup. I assume it was used by someone who had a long driveway and horses, because there was a faint whiff of manure on the underside

Thanks Mr. Obvious.

It could be worse it could be a 3kGT TT, z32 300ZX TT or MKIII 7MGTE Supra LOL.

“ TWO batteries”
All pick up diesels have two batteries.

I truly wouldn’t know. But I assume you can at least see the valve covers with the hood up? I seriously couldn’t see ANY engine. I can only imagine they work on them from the bottom on a lift or something. Mind boggling.

They do have 2 coolant systems.
1 for the engine and all the normal stuff.
2nd for the egr, cac, trans cooler & fuel cooler.

300zx Z32 engine.
3000 GT TT engine
These are the two worst cars I have yet to turn wrenches on. you can see the engine but the sure amount of parts you have to remove to get anywhere is out of hand.

Ford: Trust us. Just don’t touch anything not yellow.

“Seriously, how the hell do you service one of these things?”
Step 1: Remove Body

They also have 4 cat sensors. And if one of them malfunctions, it puts the truck in super limp mode.

This is why you stick to 7.3 Powerstrokes. All the later trucks require cab removal for turbo replacement.
![]() 10/21/2015 at 20:52 |

Pfft. That’s not even a 6.7
And someone already answered it, but to do much of anything on a PSD “easily” you remove the cab. I’ve taken part in a handful of cab-offs with these trucks. It never gets any more fun. It ALWAYS sucks.

I doubt it has five radiators. I'm guessing an oil cooler, transmission cooler, radiator, and maybe split intercoolers.

I’ve always pined after a 96 F250 diesel

Jesus. That just sounds like ridiculous engineering to me
![]() 10/21/2015 at 23:19 |

All I can say is I counted five separate radiators.
![]() 10/21/2015 at 23:33 |

So there were five radiators, an oil cooler, a transmission cooler, and an inter cooler, for a total of eight radiator looking objects? That is odd indeed. Must be the biggest engine bay ever.

Welcome to basically everything FoMoCo.

Uhhh... Seriously? You do realize that all those things you just named are, in fact, radiators? We do tend to refer to them by their functions, but all are technically radiators.
![]() 10/22/2015 at 00:04 |

Yes, I realize they all act as radiators. You seemed shocked by it having five, so I figured you thought they were all radiators for cooling the engine (since we have specific names for things in automotive culture). Having five things that act as radiators isn’t a lot. My Abarth has four and it’s a little 1.4L turbo engine.

SL65 AMG Black Series has, IIRC: 2 air/water intercoolers, 1 low temp radiator, 1 high temp radiator, 2 engine oil coolers, 1 trans cooler, 1 power steering cooler, 1 AC condenser, and a diff cooler complete with pump and lines. Not to mention 2 electric water pumps and a belt driven water pump, and requires full exhaust removal for an alignment which could take somewhere in the range of 1-10 hours depending on needed adjustments.
I would rather work on that than a Ford diesel. PITA!
![]() 10/22/2015 at 00:38 |

I suppose we have turbos to thank for that. Now everything needs and intercooler and trans cooler
![]() 10/22/2015 at 04:02 |

i’m guessing lifting the body off frame would be most efficient.
![]() 10/22/2015 at 07:01 |

Yeah. Mine doesn't have a trans cooler, it has two intercoolers. One on each corner of the bumper.
